(770) 300-0224Scienta QCS System for Resin Impregnated, Lacquer Coated and Specialty Paper
Scienta QCS System utilizes the latest measurement, data processing,
and communication technology with advanced scanners to offer
easy-to-use process control tools, which allow clients to maximize
their process performance on paper or printing machines. Scienta QCS System
is tailored to customers' specific requirements utilizing a modular
hardware designs. All components are based on open standards to
ensure affordability and to guarantee future flexibility. The System
is designed and solidly built to withstand heat, dust, resin, etc.
and relies on 50 years of measurement experience. Data from the QCS
scanning sensors is processed with high performance 32-bit RISC
processors to get the power needed to do real-time floating-point
calculations in the sensor board.

Vits Systems GmbH and Scienta have worked
together for
many years to ensure a trouble free integration of the Scienta
Online System into any existing or new Impregnation or Coating
lines. The online measuring system is integrated into the production
line mechanically through different web stabilizing solutions. The
threading chain support is not a problem as the Online scanners have
been designed to pass the threading chain bracket.
The Online
measurement is automated as much as possible to take into account
web breaks, paper splices and emergency situations. All electrical
connections between the production line and the Online system have
been implemented and thoroughly tested over the years. Even the
Operator Panel functions can be integrated into the line displays as
Scienta uses the same hardware components used in the production
line.
Optimizing the production process with accurate sensor
technology
Scienta offers accurate Basis Weight measurement technology based on
Beta radiation absorption, precise moisture measurement based either
on microwave technology or on absorption of near infrared light
(NIR). Measuring using microwave technology is based on the
dielectric property of materials. Water has a much higher dielectric
constant than cellulose.
The proportion of moisture in the paper
sheet will therefore be strongly reflected in its dielectric
constant. In NIR technology water molecules have a property to
oscillate at certain known wavelengths. NIR light contains these
wavelengths. When light is transmitted through paper, NIR light is
absorbed by the water molecules contained in the paper in proportion
to the amount of water there is. Addition to above basic
measurements, Scienta offer Corundum content measurement utilizing
Ash Sensor technology through gamma radiation absorption. Ash Sensor
is a double-sided measurement using gamma rays (either as a natural
source or from an X-Ray tube) detected by a Scintillation detector.
As the Gamma detector is more sensitive to hard substances (like
Corundum), the Ash Sensor can be used to selectively measure
abrasive additives in Liquid Overlay or similar products. The Ash
sensor is naturally also sensitive to any ash residing in the raw
paper.
